Finding the Right Orthodontist for the Job

When you are looking to get fitted for clear aligners, you want to make sure that you are going to someone who is trained specifically to use Invisalign. At Orthodontists Associates of WNY, we have the right training to provide you with the care you need.

Your first step should be to give us a call to make an appointment for your consultation. We can determine which Invisalign is right for you. There are a few options that we can give you based on your age and how much adjustment your teeth need.

If you are a new patient, you will be asked to fill out our new patient forms.

Taking the Impressions

During your Invisalign consultation, your orthodontist is going to make impressions of your teeth. This is the process of them taking a tray of dental putty which you bite down on until it firms up. This will help them custom fit the Invisalign to your teeth.

Your orthodontist will also get to know your unique bite. We use X-rays to give us the most accurate view of what needs to be done to help you get the right treatment.

Also, during this stage, you are going to have several photos taken of your teeth as to document the journey and progress.

At the end of the appointment, you may be expected to pay depending on your insurance plan. Check before your Invisalign consultation to see if your dental insurance plan is accepted.

Getting Started with Invisalign

The orthodontist is going to take all this information that we have gathered from you about your teeth, and it will get sent to Invisalign. They are going to put together a digital model of your teeth that will allow treatment to begin.

This gets reviewed by your orthodontist that did the impressions, X-rays, and photos. From there, they will make sure everything looks correct and they will send their approval for them to create your unique set of clear aligners.

Depending on the amount of time needed to adjust your teeth, you may be given anywhere between 10-30 sets of aligners.

Making the Appointment to Get Your Invisalign

It could take a couple of weeks from your initial Invisalign consultation to get your custom aligners in. Sometimes your insurance will affect the amount of time you will wait to receive them. Often it is a couple of weeks.

You will be notified by your orthodontist when it is time to come in for your appointment to get them.

At this appointment, you are going to receive the Invisalign. You might need to get something called “attachments” which are there to help hold the aligners onto your teeth. They are going to match the color of your teeth, so there is no worry about them being visible.

You will be given a kit for cleaning your Invisalign.

Each set of Invisalign is meant to be worn for a few weeks. You will continue to go back to the orthodontist for progress visits.
