Invisalign Treatment Plan

Invisalign TreatmentIf you are looking to treat your crooked teeth, you may be wondering if an Invisalign treatment plan can help you achieve the smile of your dreams.

How Does An Invisalign Treatment Plan Work?

Many patients who come into the office for a consultation ask me if their bad bite can be corrected and treated with Invisalign. Most patients don’t understand the process or how Invisalign actually works. This is what happens when we create a customized Invisalign treatment plan for a patient. First, we take a digital scan of their mouth using a wand, which makes a little recording of their teeth and creates a three-dimensional representation of the patient’s mouth and teeth. That representation is sent to the Invisalign headquarters, where a technician sits down and resets all the teeth utilizing computer software. After that, the case is sent back to us and we, as doctors, sit down and evaluate whether the technician moved the teeth properly.

About The Invisalign Treatment Plan

Using our software, we can fine tune and move teeth again, beyond what the technician did, improving on the result they might have achieved. Once we’ve made those corrections, the technician will tune up the treatment and return it to us. Often, this process is repeated several times before we finalize and accept the treatment plan. This ensures the most accurate results as we can make adjustments and changes based upon your current progress in real-time.

How Are Retainers Used in an Invisalign Treatment Plan?

Once accepted, Invisalign will then print the retainers using a 3-D printer. If you visualize the technology, it is a 3-D printer that prints those plastic trays. As an example, for a patient who might be contemplating a one-year treatment, 26 sets of retainers – both top and bottom – will be printed out. Those retainers are shipped to our office and we dispense them as the patient goes through treatment. We sometimes stretch appointments out and give patients four to six sets of retainers, asking them to wear each set for 10 to 14 days. Many patients appreciate this because they are not required to return to our office each and every time they are ready for the next phase of treatment.
