Do Expanders Hurt?
Are you considering orthodontic care for yourself or your child and have questions about whether expanders are painful? In the following educational video, experienced Buffalo Orthodontist Dr. Andrew J. Dusel talks about whether palatal expanders hurt when used for expansion of the jaw.
- Kids have many questions about expanders, but their first question is always, “Is this going to hurt?”
- My short answer is, “There might be a little discomfort the first couple of days, as you get to used to the little bit of pressure that they put on your teeth, but I wouldn’t call it painful. I would just call it a little bit of pressure.”
- I always tell patients to take a little Tylenol or Advil and reassure them that, after the second day, it really gets very easy.
