- Sometimes, one look at a new patient tells us they have poor skeletal relationships between their jaws. Moreover, patients beyond the age when growth is occurring often require surgical intervention.
- Following a surgical treatment, some of the benefits patients experience include improvement in the aesthetic balance of the face. Rather simply, a more attractive profile. Oftentimes, orthognathic surgery improves conditions within the patient’s airway.
- Orthognathic surgery is not a fit for every patient. However, when necessary, we do recommend it. Even though, sadly, we often move teeth instead of making the proper recommendation.
- When we recognize a case as a truly surgical one, our practice always presents it as such. We then let the patient make an informed decision as to whether or not to do it. If they choose not to go forward with surgery, we can discuss orthodontics alone. Although we may not always recommend that approach for some patients.
