Will My Braces Hurt?
This is the question that sits heavy on the mind of someone who is about to head to the orthodontist to get braces. They want to know what feelings to expect. One thing that can help ease your worries is that we aim to provide you with treatment that does not cause you extreme pain. We know that braces have a bad rap for being painful, but when they are done correctly, you should not be in pain.
Some minor discomfort is normal with braces. When you get them tightened or adjusted, it can cause some level of discomfort. We want you to know that that is normal and temporary. If you do experience pain, you should report that back to your orthodontist. When you cannot find relief from your pain with over-the-counter pain medication like Tylenol or a day of adjustment, your orthodontist can help you.
Pain should never be a prevalent feeling when you have braces. Your gums might feel a little sore, but that is normal and temporary.
