Steven J. Hietanen, DDS, is a practicing orthodontist and Vice President of Orthodontists Associates of Western New York, PC with offices located in Hamburg, Olean and Orchard Park , New York. He is also the President of Volumentric Craniofacial Imaging Center, Hamburg, New York.

Soon after having received the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University at Buffalo School of Dentistry in 1988, Dr. Hietanen attended Columbia University. Shortly thereafter, he graduated with a Certificate in Orthodontics, in 1993. He is licensed to practice Orthodontics in New York and Pennsylvania.

He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Society, the New York State Dental Association, the Eighth District Dental Society, the Erie County Dental Association, the International Association of Orofacial Myology, the Fonzi Dental Study Club and the Western New York Dental Implant Study Club. Dr. Hietanen is also Northeastern Society of Orthodontics Board Eligible, and is American Board of Orthodontics Board Eligible. Furthermore, Dr. Hietanen is a past and current President of the Eighth District Orthodontic Academy of New York and a former Executive Board Member of the Erie County Dental Society, New York.

Dr. Hietanen, along with his partner, Dr. Colarusso, has presented a number of seminars on orthodontic treatment, including: Early Orthodontic Treatment – What? When? Why? – 2008; Early Treatment Orthodontics – Why? – 2007; NewTom Scan Technology in Orthodontic and Dental Treatments – 2004, 2005; Functional Considerations to Orthodontics – 2004; Representatives of Zerobase – Toronto, 2001; Chicago, 2000; San Diego, 1999; and A Zerobase Orthodontic Office – 2000. He also receives regular invitations to speak to local pediatric, ENT, Dental hygienist and assistant groups.

Orthodontists Associates of WNY was the first private practice to install and utilize CBCT technology. As a result, Dr. Hietanen is well-­versed in its use in diagnosis for orthodontic treatment. In fact, he was one of the original importers of the NewTom 3g scanner. To clarify, this is a cone-beam computed tomography technology. It is utilized in all areas of dentistry because it provides reduced radiation exposure and improved diagnostic data for diagnosis.

Continually wanting to improve his diagnostic acumen, Dr. Hietanen also seeks to implement new technology in the process. Teaching and educating patients to bring passion to his orthodontics.

A member of Ss. Peter and Paul RC Church in Hamburg, New York, Dr. Hietanen has been involved in the Ss. Peter and Paul Home School Association and Bishop Timon­-St. Jude Alumni Association as past President, Vice Chairman, and Member of the Board of Trustees. He was also the co-­founder of the Ss. Peter and Paul Hockey Teams, as well as a member of the Board of Governors of the Cazenovia Park Hockey Association. Furthermore, he has also coached hockey at the youth and high school level for the last 17 years.

Dr. Hietanen is proud to be an orthodontist on the Craniofacial team at Oshei Children’s Hospital. The Craniofacial Center aims to help improve outcomes for patients through coordinated care, education, research, and advocacy. The Center specializes in the treatment of cleft lip & palate, craniofacial malformations, craniosynostosis, ear anomalies, and hypernasal speech.

The team is nationally recognized as an American Cleft-Palate Craniofacial Association (ACPA) Approved Team, and fully approved by the Commission on Approval of Teams as a Cross-Specialty Team.
